19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents his initial championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.
The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 different events.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an better serving game.
He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.
The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
Moutet rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
